How many scholars will be accepted this year?
For 2026, we plan to accept a cohort of approximately 15 scholars.
Are students from any background allowed to apply?
Yes. Students from any academic background are welcome to apply, provided they have an interest in data science and AI and are willing to complete the required coursework.
What is the time commitment during the summer?
No meetings are required during Summer 2026. Students are only expected to participate in an internship during this period.
Is preference given to students with prior experience in data science?
There is no minimum requirement for previous coursework or training in data science. Applications are evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Research Fit
- Potential for Collaboration
- Leadership
- Sustained Engagement

Can I still participate in iTREDS if I study abroad for a semester?
Yes. You are expected to continue participating in required meetings (virtually, if necessary), and you may complete your capstone project while abroad.
What other opportunities are available if I am not selected?
We offer additional opportunities, including internship collaborations with Radiant. One student is selected for this program each cycle.
